Success Story: Container Finance in South West England
Discover how Sterling Business Finance helped a storage company secure funding to purchase containers, overcoming financial hurdles and broker challenges.
Funding a Container Self-Storage Business’s Expansion
A container self-storage business based in South West England was originally renting containers from a well-known supplier but needed 30 new containers so they could move from renting to owning the containers.
- Funding secured for 30 new 20-foot containers
- Only £3 extra a month per container compared to renting fees
- Whole amount funded with a tier 1 lender over a 60-month term
- Secured a very competitive rate

The Challenge
After contacting multiple other brokers the customer found they were either not getting back to them or unable to help. As well as this, they were financially less strong on paper due to renting containers instead of owning them, which could have limited strategic growth opportunities, made them appear riskier to lenders and make it harder to get the required borrowing capacity with favourable terms.
The Solution
Sterling Finance was able to arrange finance for the whole amount with a tier 1 lender over a 60-month term, at a very competitive rate, allowing the business to spread the costs over time. We managed to replace rented containers with brand new ones for just £3 extra per month per container. Switching from rental units to hire purchase units allowed for the business to strengthen it’s balance sheet in the long run, whilst still having predictable monthly repayments with no large upfront cost.
